Golfing breaks in Bournemouth

Avalon Beach Hotel is ideally situated for anyone planning a golfing break in the Bournemouth area. With a wide range of local courses available for all abilities and pockets, Bournemouth is the perfect choice for golf. Ideal for learners and juniors, Solent Meads Golf Course at Hengistbury head is just along the coast and offers a par 3 and Driving range.  Iford Golf Course is only a couple of miles from the hotel and is a great course for the Play and Play golfer. Situated on flat land adjacent to the river Stour and with buggies available, it is a superb course for young and old golfer alike. Iford Golf Course also boasts a covered, floodlit driving range that is one of the largest in Europe.

There are two Municipal courses near to the centre of Bournemouth. Queens Park Golf Course is a seasoned heathland course and was once a championship course and has seen the likes of Gary Player and Steve Ballesteros play there.  The other Municipal course is Meyrick Park Golf Course, which is a woodland course that also holds a lot of history. Both courses are very reasonably priced and it is unlikely that you will need a handicap certificate for either, but please check first to be on the safe side.
During the 1st Week of June each year, the Bournemouth Open Golf Tournament is held all week, with tournaments played at both Queens Park Golf Course and Meyrick Park Golf Course. There are a host of competitions to choose from and the 72 hole Championship played over 4 days across both courses is thought to be unigue.
If you fancy a week of competitive golf, visit the website for entry details. www.bournemouthopen.net

Moors Valley Golf Course at the Country Park is another course worth visiting, with the added advantage that non golfers have plenty of woodland attractions to keep them busy - so a great day out can be had by golfers and non-golfers alike. Moors Valley is at the top of the Wessex Way dual carriageway.

Private Courses in the area include; Highcliffe Golf Course, a short flat course that is popular with seniors. Dudsbury Golf Course, has held many Pro-Am tournaments and is considered a good test of golf, suitable for the longer hitter. Dudsbury is not far from the airport. Parkstone Golf Course, near Canford Cliffs, Poole, is a shorter course but meticulously maintained and challenging in its own way. You may also wish to try Knighton Heath, a heathland course near Wallisdown, not far from Tower Park in Poole. For the lower handicapper, a visit to Broadstone Golf Course should be planned, as it is considered by most to be the most testing course in the area. All courses will provide a friendly welcome, but a handicap certificate will be required.
Many offer off-peak and group deals are available, so a quick call to the course could pay dividends.
