There are many spectacular places to visit in Dorset, many of which are within an hour’s drive from our hotel.

For a cultural day out, the bustling market town of Wimborne Minster, on the edge of Cranborne Chase, is an ideal destination with its Minster, Model Town and Gardens and Priest’s House Museum. Close by is the National Trust property of Kingston Lacy set in beautiful wooded parkland.

If you want to be by the sea, you can explore the stunning Jurassic Coast to the west of Bournemouth:

  • take the chain ferry from Sandbanks in Poole to Studland and Brownsea Island
  • drive to Lulworth Cove and then walk down the steep path to Durdle Door, recently featured on the big screen in Nanny McPhee
  • stop off at Corfe Castle and marvel at the ruins on the hill
  • the Tank Museum at Bovington houses the world’s largest collection of tanks and armoured fighting vehicles and is a fascinating day out.
  • explore the Blue Pool, Furzebrook nr Wareham, 25 acres of woodland designated an area of Special Scientific Interest with many rare plants and animals.
  • go to the Abbotsbury Swannery nr Weymouth and watch 1000 swans being fed daily at 12 pm and 4 pm
  • For those who are interested in animals, a visit to Monkey World, a rescue centre for chimpanzees and orangutans near Wareham will be a special treat.

This is only a small selection of destinations. We will gladly give you other suggestions depending on weather and time of year.
