things to do close to home

Avalon Beach Hotels Bournemouth are ideally situated only a two-minute walk from the golden sandy beaches of Southbourne and a short distance from so many of the south’s natural beauty spots.

The seafront at Bournemouth is home to many visitor attractions and things to do including:

  • the Pier with its spectacular firework displays during the summer
  • KidZone beach areas, where the children can play safely
  • surfing and other water sports
  • boat trips
  • Imax Cinema
  • Bournemouth international centre
  • The Pavilion & Pier theatres
  • Oceanarium

Christchurch is just down the road, with its food and wine festival in May (www.christchurchfoodfest.co.uk), so whether you’re a gourmet or just love good food and wine, pop along and take part in one of the master classes or attend a cookery demonstration with one of the many celebrity chefs.

If walking is more your thing, hike around Hengistbury Head, a rocky headland halfway between Poole Harbour and Hirst Spit and an area of exceptional beauty. Nearby Mudeford, a charming fishing village at the entrance to Christchurch harbour is also well worth a visit and a must for water sports enthusiasts and fishermen.

This is of course but a fraction of what is on offer in the area but we have a comprehensive collection of information about local events and places as well as those slightly further afield and we will be happy to help you organise outings in Bournemouth.

Bournemouth Surf Reef at Boscombe

The Marine and Fisheries Agency has granted Bournemouth Borough Council a special environment licence to begin construction of the project. There has been a great deal of work being made behind the scenes for Europe's first Artificial Surf Reef, with the reef anticipated to be completed in time for the October 2008 swell.
